I watched a few comedies Mckendrick (remake of one of his movies did Joel Coen) and appreciated them, but they were not really "my" movie. And they watched this movie and although it also not really "my" but he convinced me that the man was very talented.

I think Mckendrick put this picture to show your range, to prove that he knows how to remove do not only Comedy with British humor. Here it's a deliberate desire very well seen in"Sweet smell of success" (why "smell? "Aroma" was would be much nicer). The Director wanted this picture is the most different on style of his British comedies, and so that the style sometimes looks deliberate. The exclusive style setting, gorgeous cocky heroes and spectacular posed dialogues here so perfect, that gradually start to feel some artificiality and staging of events. All the beat scene for artistic effect. The script is confusing and witty to obscene. A plot moves, but also the sense of many dialogues only understand in hindsight. In other words, the film is just licked to perfection. I personally believe that this is the first film in the history of cinema, which fully fits the term "art film" with all pluses and minuses. Films like Bergman not called Arthouse — them that is insultingly low and generally uncomfortable somehow. And for "smell of success" in the time. It is generally the most art house film in the world.

Seriously — while deliberate the style of the picture is worth seeing because of the deliberate style. She itself very curious. Of course, Lancaster and Curtis at the top. Sister of the hero of Lancaster exceptionally nice. This one of those heroines that every man, without hesitation, would have taken to wife. Plus all Noir there still is, the police, the insidious crime and expose him. And not say that the picture is quite frankly shows the cynicism of the powerful. Absolutely frankly, up to pimping in personal gain. Standing picture, stylish kinomanskie sight.

This film the crime plot, the private detectives and femme Fatales. But not less "Sweet smell of success" — a perfect example of film Noir, where to reproduce atmophere total lies and illustrates a society of people, ready on all for the sake of the notorious success.

Burt Lancaster plays a Almighty magnate John. John. Hunsecker, and Tony Curtis — his faithful hound dog Sidney Falco. They are clever, cunning, selfish and know how to manipulate people. Their things at times so vile that the viewer is left guessing whether there is even though some the ultimate hypocrisy and lie for these characters. The only positive quality of Hunsaker — love for the sister, but for this love he is ready to destroy her relations with a jazz musician in Dallas, which already made her offer. With the help of Falco, hunsecker strongly intriguing and, in the end, seeking their gap. But a vengeful tycoon this is not enough, he wants to destroy the musician, who quickly recognized all his tricks.

Such honest and straight guys, Dallas, doomed to defeat against the powers that be. Hunsaker imagined of God, ending one of his monologues as if jokingly said the phrase "go and longer sin no more". Well as saying "our main weapon — democracy" in his lips just sounds blasphemous. Martin Scorsese in his documentary about the American cinema said that the image of the Hunsaker charged with the famous Senator McCarthy, the coming to power which marks an epoch in the history of the United States, referred to as "McCarthyism".

By becoming Hunsaker hero Tony Curtis — calculating a shameless parasite without moral principles, secretly dreams to overthrow his master. But his age under the wing of the omnipotent Mr. short.

The entire ensemble of actors, recreating this very tragic story, worked perfectly. I especially want to highlight Tony Curtis, from I can not expected so honed game.

"Sweet smell of success" does not has weak sides. Director Mckendrick perfectly reveals the characters, noticing the smallest details. Drama is impeccable, all the emphasis is made in the right places. This movie certainly deserves

10 of 10

The British film Director Alexander Mckendrick came in the end of an era of film Noir, if compared what the modern, rather it can be called the mirror image of films like Michael Clayton and His Man. Themes of moral choice and balance between features and the conscience of those is the same, but heroes Sweet smell of Success are just the opposite — is to be expected on the basis of the title of the film.

Wrote Ernest Lehman, screenwriter with a bunch of loud and well-prescribed paintings, have me the first place associated with stunning dialogue Chizhevskogo "North by Northwest", and Clifford was only the next day, shoveled the entire the structure of the basics of Leman. Only the next day to the word to the status of theater playwright so not able to add glory scriptwriter and big project his name is not had, but it the Coen brothers, and kept the basis of Barton Fink. Cynical characters, the dynamics of the relationship between them, excellent dialogue and thick atmosphere of the new York world columnist transferred to these two worthy gentlemen on the fame.

But most importantly, that struck in picture — AS a miracle shot. Every movement of the camera is verified; all the street scenes were shot not in the pavilion, and in this Manhattan, with Tony Curtis on the background of "iron" on Broadway and Burt Lancaster, and walking on these streets. Thanks to this operator James Wong Howe created a unique black-and-white replica of Manhattan ' 50s. Virtually no tones of gray, the city looks amazing.

After the achievements of Howie the film crew could to wrap this up, and the actors are not bother just not interfere with the camera, but can not mention Tony Curtis in the slippery role, the only time on my memory when it completely realized its potential, and magnetic, not out of this world Jay Jay Hunsaker. It has played Lancaster — technically, this is the role of the second plan, but it is every scene with a nailed with conviction Hopkins in silence of the Lambs.

Add a wonderful jazz soundtrack by Elmer Bernstein and the recipe is close to perfection in film Noir ready. At the time of its release, the film success is not use with a time also known as not overgrown. But neither jot it is worse than does. Rarely come across such cases of success of the film in a given topic, but they and happier.
